Slumdog Millionaire:
Neither of us read the book, but if there were any similarities to the overly contrived coincidences, poorly written romance, and a silly game show that asks all the right questions of this movie, we say NO. Don't get us wrong, it was entertaining, but fluff is still fluff.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button:
You have to give them props for digging three and a half hours out of a 14 page story. But we could give them more props if it was a bit shorter and a bit less of a retread.
Doubt:
Probably the most accomplished of the bunch. How do you turn a play into a successful movie? We're not sure, but John Patrick Shanley seems to have done it!
Frost/Nixon:
How do you turn a play into a successful movie? We're not sure, but not like this. Compelling in many ways, but please no fake talking heads! If you want to make a documentary, make one, just get the real people to say the dialogue.
The Reader:
We both read this book and liked it. However, in the the movie, unlike the book, Kate's Nazi sympathizer was a bit too sympathetic for our tastes.
Will Win: Slumdog Millionaire
Should Win: Doubt
