Best Original Screenplay

In Bruges:
Even if it did fall flat during its last act, this screenplay intelligently manages comedy, action, male-bonding, and deep emotions, all while giving us one of the best directorial debuts in years AND a great performance by Colin Farrell!

Wall-E:
Did this even have a screenplay? Yes, and who knew minimalism could be so wonderful! If Andrew Stanton can make us feel emotion for two robots who don't talk AND show us an abandoned Earth by way of light commentary, give him an Oscar. Sure it was anything but subtle, but we loved it!

Happy-Go-Lucky:
We didn't see this one, but she's happy: REALLY, REALLY happy.

Frozen River:
We didn't see this one either, but this is the first recognition the screenplay has really gotten. What we have heard: Melissa Leo rocked!

Milk:
Sure, that Diego Luna character was obnoxious, but this screenplay gave us a consistent, well written examination of a larger-than-life man who did something important...and got killed for it. It's sad how often those two phrases go together.

Will Win: Milk
Should Win: Milk
